Magnetic Fields and Pulses of Radio Wave Energy
The absence of something is not enough
2017

The human desire to transcend reality is an underlying driving force in this work. Medical tools are used for non-medical purposes and MRI technology become central to the work. In an attempt to map the brain, the work evokes a space where the photographs are the remnants from this journey.

Magnetic Fields and Pulses of Radio Wave Energy
Book spreads, digital print
2016

Magnetic Fields and Pulses of Radio Wave Energy takes inspiration from an accident I had in 2016 where I experienced a total loss of control and had a brain concussion. The work represented a way of dealing with the event of the accident, of taking control over the narrative and turning a negative experience into something positive.

The book is a two-dimensional journey through the invisible landscape of the brain, mainly composed of abstract images and coordinates taken from an MRI scan of my brain. In the work I attempt to map the brain through a medical software and explore the limits and possibilities of the technology by using it in ways it was not designed for, and also questioning the technology’s ability to say anything clear about the content of the brain.

Atlas 1
Video, MRI
2016

Atlas is a digital video loop in which I explore the video capabilities of the MRI medical software. It is a digital complimentary part of the book Magnetic Fields and Pulses of Radio Wave Energy and it was presented with the book as a video sculpture in the exhibition “Vår”, 2016, at Gothenburg University.

The image as an image and the image as an object is a photographic series in which I explore the graphical and narrative possibilities of functional objects through a series of staged photographs. The work was done through a collaboration between the art academy in Gothenburg and the archive of functional objects in Alingsås.
